The mountains of Yugoslavia were exquisite. We passed through 13 tunnels built into the side of one mountain pass. Refueling with diesel in Serbia   The road to Belgrade Interesting architecture on the road to Belgrade     PAIGE'S FOOD NOTES   15 February 1999 - Made it through Belgrade to Nis (located less than 200 km from Kosovo). We arrived around 8 p.m. and stayed in a dumpy place off the highway - the hotel had no heat so the staff put a heater in my room. We stayed in the hotel for dinner since this was our only choice for food. We ate mixed grill of beef, pork and lamb, salad and drank Yugoslav beers, plus local schnapps (tasted like a cheap whiskey). Not the best food, but nourishment.
